I wanted a stylish electric skillet. I did not want one with a non-stick coating, as those tend to flake off over time. I wanted something that had enough eye-appeal to use on a buffet table or to carry to potlucks. Typically, I use this skillet for lightly fried Italian dishes like scallopini, breaded zucchini, and chicken piccata. Having a temperature dial is useful when making these dishes as you can easily keep the oil at proper temperature to crisp the food without getting it soggy. This skillet does tasks that my deep fryer and crock pot do not do well. Basically, a deep fryer is too large for scallopini, and a crock pot is too deep for certain buffet presentations. Recently, I took it to a pot luck and used it to serve Buffalo wings. The instructions indicated that the pan needs to be "seasoned" before first use to avoid sticking.
